What Is Fraud, Waste, and Abuse?

Fraud is an intentional act to deceive or misrepresent that results in personal or institutional loss. Waste is the misuse or mismanagement of resources. Abuse is the intentional or reckless disregard of policies that causes harm or unnecessary expense.

• Theft or embezzlement of funds or property
• Falsification of financial records or time reports
• Misuse of College assets for personal gain
• Conflicts of interest and undisclosed relationships
• Improper or unauthorized expenditures
• Procurement or grant fraud

How to Report

You may report a concern through any of the following channels. When reporting, please include as much detail as possible: dates, individuals involved, amounts, and supporting documentation if available.

Whistleblower Protections

The College prohibits retaliation against any individual who, in good faith, reports suspected fraud, waste, or abuse, or who participates in an investigation. Good-faith reporters are protected regardless of whether the allegation is ultimately substantiated. Confidentiality will be maintained to the extent permitted by law and the need to conduct a thorough investigation.

Anonymous Reporting

Reports may be made anonymously. While anonymous reports are accepted and reviewed, providing your contact information enables investigators to follow up for additional information, which may improve the outcome of the review.
