Institutional Compliance
Newsom Educational College complies with Tennessee Code Annotated 49-7-1907 (the "Divisive Concepts" law). No training, instruction, curriculum, or workplace programming provided by or sponsored by the College promotes, advocates for, or compels assent to any concept defined as a "divisive concept" under the statute. The College is committed to fostering an inclusive, respectful environment consistent with the protections established by federal and state civil rights law.
Scope of the Statute
Under TCA 49-7-1907, a "divisive concept" includes the idea that one group is inherently superior or inferior to another, that individuals should be discriminated against or receive adverse treatment due to their group identity, or that individuals bear responsibility for past actions of others sharing their group identity. The statute prohibits state entities from compelling assent to such concepts and from conducting training that promotes them. Right to Report Concerns
Students, employees, and members of the public who believe the College has violated TCA 49-7-1907 may submit a written complaint. The complaint must include a description of the alleged violation and relevant details to allow for review. Complaints are reviewed promptly. Retaliation against any person who files a good-faith complaint is prohibited.
